Nakhodka Sea Fishing Port one of the most important transport hubs in the south of the Far East.
The port is located on the north-west coast of the Sea of Japan in Nakhodka bay and connected with central regions of Russia and the European Union countries by theTranssiberian railway.
Vladivostok Airport is located 130 km from Nakhodka.
Favorable natural conditions, convenient geographical location, up-to-date navigation equipment and safe pilotage enable navigation and mooring to be carried out all the year round.
The time of economic and political reforms has made its adjustments in the activity of such a specialized enterprise as the Fishing Port.
Taking into account decrease in amount of fish caught in the Far East area and related with it reduction of fish production transshipment through the Port, the management made a decision about modernization of the Port from single-purpose to multi-purpose one which is capable to handle not only fish production but also different general cargoes such as timber, metal, asbestos, cellulose, cotton etc.
The modification allowed capital assets to be considerably renewed and overhauled.
Over recent years the Port purchased new handling equipment significantly speeding up work process.
Nakhodka Sea Fishing Port Open Joint Stock Company is a multi-purpose port which performs handling of wide range of cargoes:
- Timber cargo (lumber, round wood)
- Containers
- Metal scrap
- Rolled iron
- Cargo in big-bags (magnesite, ore, cement)
- Food cargo (rice, refrigerated cargo, fish production)
The port berths of total length about 1,3 km can take vessels with deadweight to 25 thousand ton.
The Port possesses gantry cranes with capacity from 6 to 16 tons and a large park of small-scale mechanization – over 110 units of loaders with different capacity.
The total area of the enterprise is 33,59 hectares. The area of open storage facilities is 67 square kilometers.
There are 9 berths with depth from 10,75 to 11,75 meters with overall length of pierhead line 1271 meters; 4 warm storages of the total area 36,8 thousand square kilometers, 6 metal storages with total capacity 4,5 thousand tons, 1 refrigerated storage with capacity 4,6 thousand tons, 1 refrigerator with capacity 6,1 thousand tons and storage temperature from −18 C to −24 C as well as a customs storage warehouse.
The park of handling machinery comprises 24 gantry cranes with a lifting capacity from 5 to 16 tons, autoloaders and electric loaders. All berths and storages have access railway lines of total length 10,2 km, railway sidings and ramps.
In 2006 the Company accepted a program for construction of the container terminal in the territory of the Port which had to take 5 from 9 available berths.
STAGES OF CONSTRUCTION
At the present time it’s possible to handle up to 2 million tons of different cargoes on the berths. However, only half of capacities is engaged in work. As a result an idea to reconstruct a part of the port area and pierhead lines for the container terminal has started up.
The reconstruction of the Ports as supposed to be performed in several stages upon completion of which the container terminal will be able to handle up to 400 thousand TEU annually giving the possibility to maximize production capacity of the port.
However the new course shouldn’t completely substitute traditional cargoes, in particular handling of fish and seafood. Nowadays its share in cargo turn-over is about 5% or 50-70 thousand tons per year.
In analysts opinion, operation of the new container area in Nakhodka allows to solve issues currently existing in the Far East such as lack of infrastructure and shortage of storage facilities.
MODIFICATION OF THE SEA FISHING PORT INTO THE UP-TO-DATE TERMINAL COMPLEX
The main purpose of reconstruction of the existing port is to build up a modern competitive and profitable terminal complex.
Prioritized cargoes are containers with maximum volume of transshipment not exceeding turnover capacity of infrastructure and railway lines, also handling of general cargoes (timber/metal) is provided as well as vehicle transshipment.

GENERAL CARGO
The south part of the terminal is designed for general cargoes. The terminal will be engaged in transportation of all types of pallet cargoes such as timber and other general cargo. The territory free from containers will be used for general cargoes. Metal is expected to be a main part of traffic. Railway line and storage area are required for cargo. For lumber a warehouse without sidewall can be used. Based on calculation dimension of the warehouse shall be 5 000 м2 enabling to handle 350 000 м3 of timber annually with cargo being at the terminal for 14 days. Cranes shall be renewed for modernization of handling process. There are two options: standard rope crane or hydraulic loader. Both vehicles can move along rails or on wheels or on crawlers.
Advantage of wheeled vehicle is operational flexibility. A fork lift can be used for handling.
Berthage (quayage) and rear port zones are equipped with gantry cranes HANZ and ABUS with capacity up to 16 tons. Also Tadano cranes are available in the Port.
Stacking, unstacking and transportation of cargoes along open storage areas and in holds is carried out by electric and auto loaders such fork lifts, side loaders and grapple loaders with capacity up to 10 tons.
The port has special-purpose machinery for timber cargo handling.
Highly-developed loading and unloading quay and maneuvering apron gives possibility to handle intensively cargoes by the direct option “shipboard- railway carriage” or “railway carriage – shipboard” which considerably reduces costs and time of cargo delivery.
HANDLING APPROACH LINES
All berths and warehouses have railway approach lines of total length 10,2 km, railway sidings and ramps. Maneuvering works in the Port are performed by three locomotives. The Port has approach lines from Rybniki railway station.
Total length of railway lines is 11,2 km. They are kept in excellent technical condition by our own resources.
Granting three own locomotives, handling is carried out by dead end track method which gives the possibility to avoid downtime almost completely.
